Fatal Crash of Tanker Truck Near Linden Causing Diversions

Posted: May 16, 2014

LINDEN -- Westbound traffic on Interstate 66 near the Linden exit continues to be diverted this afternoon while officials clean up from a fatal two-car crash overnight.
The driver of a tanker truck was killed after his vehicle ran off the interstate and overturned this morning around 2:30 near mile marker 11.
Warren E. Wood, 61, of Broadway, was hauling about 8,000 gallons of fuel when his vehicle was hit by a Toyota Corolla that spun out in the interstate.

Hea Yon Kim, 23, of Stephens City, was driving the Corolla. She was not injured and has been charged with reckless driving.

Fuel didn't spill from the tanker, but the clean-up is causing traffic to be re-routed. A detour has been established for all traffic on westbound I-66. Drivers are being directed off the interstate at exit 23 in Fauquier County, where they will follow Va. 17 north to U.S. 50 west. This route will take them to Interstate 81 in Frederick County, about 13 miles north of the junction with I-66.
Drivers can also expect significant congestion in the town of Front Royal, due to traffic that was on the interstate before the current detour was put in place.
