WINCHESTER - A local man has been arrested after police say he stabbed the Winchester News Stand owner.

Nicholas West, 56, is charged with malicious wounding. He was taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.

Paul "The Duck" Whittemore, owner and clerk at the time at the News Stand, said West became angry with him after being told he would have to pay five cents for a plastic bag.

West then began cursing and after being asked to leave twice, he allegedly stabbed Whittemore in his wrist area.

"I didn't even see the knife coming at me until I felt a prick," Whittemore said.

He added that there were four to five customers in the store at the time.

Whittemore did not seek medical treatment at the time for his wound.
