All-Area Girls’ Track & Field First Team

Lisa Meneau — Handley — Senior — Hurdles

Meneau posted the area’s best marks in the 100 hurdles (14.13, a Region II record), 300 hurdles (42.50, a Southern Track Classic record), 400 (1:00.56) and long jump (16-101/2). At the Group AA meet, Meneau was champion in the 100 hurdles (14.47) and the 300 hurdles (42.82, a meet record). Meneau also was champion in both hurdles events at the Region II and Northwestern District meets, and she was also district champion in the long jump. Meneau also ran on the Handley 4x400 team that placed fifth in Group AA. She will run at the University of Maryland next year.

Alaina Combs — Sherando — Junior — Throws

Combs ranked second in the area in the discus (113-5) and the shot put (35-21/2). In the discus, she recorded her season-best to place sixth in Group AA (113-5), and she was champion in Region II and the Northwestern District. In the shot put, Combs placed 12th in Group AA, second in the region, and was champion in the district.

Miles Crosby — Clarke County — Senior — Jumps

Crosby, the area’s best in the triple jump (35-6), placed seventh in Group A (35-01/2), third in Region B, and second in the Bull Run District. In the long jump, Crosby was fourth in the district.

Amber Hawkins — James Wood — Senior — Distance

Hawkins was the area’s best in the 1,600 (5:08.38) and 3,200 (11:05.07). In the 3,200, Hawkins recorded her season best to place fourth in Group AA. In the 1,600, Hawkins was seventh in Group AA (5:16.59), second in Region II, and was Northwestern District champion. In the 800, Hawkins was second in the district. She will for the University of Houston next year.

Katie Houser — James Wood — Sophomore — Jumps

Houser, the area’s best in the high jump (5-6), placed second in Group AA (5-5), second in Region II, and was Northwestern District champion. Houser was also district champion in the triple jump and ranked third in the area in that event.

Ammie Levi — Clarke County — Senior — Throws

Levi, the area’s best in the discus (114-10), placed third in Group A (111-8) and was second in both Region B and the Bull Run District. In the shot put, Levi was 20th in Group A and sixth in the region and the district.

Michelle Yates — Clarke County — Junior — Throws

Yates, the area’s best in the shot put (36-7), placed third in Group A (36-5) and was champion in Region B and the Bull Run District.
