Area brief: Lebanon Valley beats SU women’s basketball, 75-45
ANNVILLE, Pa. — No. 9/10 Lebanon Valley used a strong start to its second half Sunday afternoon on its way to a 75-45 non-conference women's basketball victory over Shenandoah.
LVC (4-0) led 36-24 at the break before ending any thoughts of an SU comeback with a 20-4 coming out of the halftime lockerroom.
The Hornets (1-4), who shot 28 percent (8 for 29) in the first half, missed eight shots during this opening run while turning it over seven times.
Junior Sara D’Amico, who paced SU with 17 points, finally snapped this run with a pair of free throws at 10:54.
The LVC lead remained at least 26 points for the remainder of the contest.
Lebanon Valley played 15 women in the contest with 11 of these women scoring at least one point and four of the five starters posting double-digit scoring.
LVC had a 44-29 advantage on the glass, including 32-12 on the Hornets offensive end. This led to a 42-12 advantage in scoring in the paint and a 19-5 bulge in second half scoring.
Tierney Hiltz had 15 points for the victors.
In addition to D'Amico’s 17, Crystal Petrus had nine for SU.
Shenandoah opens up ODAC play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home game against Virginia Wesleyan.
