WINCHESTER — As long as the weather cooperates, it’s rivalry night for area high school girls’ and boys’ basketball teams.

Handley hosts Millbrook in a girls’ and boys’ basketball Northwestern District doubleheader tonight starting at 6 p.m. The Pioneers matchup with the Judges was postponed Thursday night and moved back to the originally scheduled times tonight, pending a forecast that calls for more snow today.

James Wood also travels to Sherando tonight for district doubleheader starting at 6.

The Northwestern District swim meet is set for tonight at the War Memorial Building at Jim Barnett Park at 7:45 p.m.

Thursday night’s Clarke County-William Monroe and Flames Home School-Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy girls’ basketball games were postponed. No make-up date information was available.

SU ranked by D3baseball.com

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Shenandoah University baseball team is ranked No. 23 in the D3baseball.com preseason poll released Wednesday afternoon by the website.

Shenandoah, coming off of a 31-13 season that included the squad’s fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Regionals, has an even 100 points in the poll to come in just behind No. 22 St. Scholastica (Minn.).

Wheaton (Mass.) received eight first-place votes and 594 points to top the poll. St. Thomas (Minn.) is second while two-time defending national champion Marietta (Ohio) is third.

SU is the only ODAC team ranked in the top 25 with Bridgewater among a host of teams in the ‘others receiving votes’ category.

The Hornets open the 2013 season on Feb. 16 against Misercordia, another squad that received top 25 consideration.

The ODAC opener is March 3 at Roanoke.
