WINCHESTER — The Shenandoah University football team officially kicked off the 2013-14 athletic season Thursday by holding its initial practices of the year.

Under the direction of new head coach Scott Yoder, the staff welcomed 104 players (64 returnees, 40 newcomers) to its first day of summer camp.

The Hornets began the day with conditioning tests in the morning in both the weight room and on the track. Following a lunch break, the squad moved to Shentel Stadium for additional testing before starting football drills at 4:30.

Yoder’s club then broke up into position groups for drill work to complete its first day of work.

Shenandoah opens its 2013 season, its 14th since restarting the program in 2000 and its second in the ODAC, on Sept. 7 versus Gallaudet.
