Area briefs: Patriots remain undefeated with home victory

STEPHENS CITY — The Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy volleyball team remained undefeated with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-11) win over Highland View at home Monday.

SVCA (12-0) was led by Carol Bartholomew’s eight kills and one block, freshman Hannah Berger’s six kills and Krista Freemire’s five kills.

Junior setter Hannah McGann totaled 19 assists and three aces in the win.

Conquerors 3, Indians 2

BERKELEY SPRINGS — Mountain View Christian Academy edged Berkeley Springs 3-2 (13-25, 17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 16-14) in a road match Monday.

MVCA (3-6) got six kills, 26 digs and three blocks from senior Sarah Rosin, sophmore Helena Higgns added five aces and 26 digs and junior Hannah Hardman finished with six kills and 19 digs in the win.

Schulte paces Hornets at invite

ROME, Ga. – Sophomore Doc Schulte's sizzling under par round paced the Shenandoah University golf team on day one of the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational Monday afternoon.

Schulte fired a five-under-par 67 over the par-72, 6758-yard Stonebridge GC course to stand tied for second overall.

Schulte fired a 31 on the back to briefly vault into the lead.

He had six birdies and one bogey during his round.

Shenandoah is currently tied for 16th in the 25-team event after carding a collective 308.

Cory Hammons had a 79, Wes Licklider 83 and Adam Flees 84 to round out the Hornets qualifying scores.

Seth Crean had a 91 that did not count toward the team total.
