Area briefs: Patriots top Highland in volleyball

STEPHENS CITY — The Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy volleyball team improved to 13-1 on the season with a 3-1 (25-6, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20) win over visiting Highland View at home Tuesday.

SVCA got 12 assists from sophomore Hannah McGann and senior Kayla Freemire filled up the stat sheet with three aces, five kills and seven assists.

Sophomores Carol Bartholomew and Krista Freemire added five aces and seven kills and four aces and four kills, respectively.

Eagles 3, Mustangs 2

FALLS CHURCH — It took awhile but the Clarke County volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 12-25, 25-22, 15-13) win over George Mason on the road Tuesday evening.

The Eagles (8-5, 6-1 Bull Run District) got 14 assists and 10 digs from senior setter Amelia Erickson and a team-high 13 kills from sophomore middle Sydney Chrane.

Senior outside hitter Isabella Eyles totaled nine digs and nine kills and fellow senior Ammie Levi chipped in with 12 kills in the win.

Clarke County next hosts Central at 7:15 p.m. today.
