Taylor Weir

Clarke County High School 17-year-old senior

Sport: Volleyball

Position: Outside hitter

Twitter handle: @taylor_lweir

Parents: Timmy and Renee Weir

Hometown: Berryville

Nicknames: Everyone calls me “T-Weir” just because it’s easier to say I guess.

What you love about volleyball: It’s the only sport I play so I put everything into it and all of my friends play it, so it’s like hanging out with friends while playing at the same time.

Biggest strength and weakness in volleyball:[Strength] my hitting definitely. I just now got to the power part, I used to not be very strong but this summer I really took my conditioning and working out seriously, so I’m a lot stronger and I’m pretty good at placing it too. [Weakness] since I’m really short I don’t get to really block all that much. I’m 5-foot-6 on a good day, so I need to get more height when I jump.

Funniest person on the team: Probably Coach Sowers, she goofs around a lot and we can all mess with her. She’s very funny.

Something people may not know about Coach Seneca Sowers: She’s just really outgoing and I can text her whenever I want. She’s really, really young, so she can relate to us and joke around with us.

Most memorable moment in volleyball: A couple games ago I got a kill with my left hand, which was pretty cool. It was a bad set and I had to go to my left hand, but it was pretty powerful, which surprised me.

Most embarrassing moment in volleyball: Last week against Handley I tripped over someone’s foot and ran straight into the net and got a point taken away. It was really embarrassing.

Favorite athlete: [U.S. Olympic volleyball gold medalists] Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh because beach volleyball is a lot harder than court volleyball and they really much be in shape.

Favorite sports team: Washington Redskins

Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive:My mom and my dad because I don’t really get to sit down and talk with them a lot because with volleyball we’re always busy and running around. And then my friend [former Clarke County foreign exchange student] Kati Kotka. She was one of my best friends when she was here and it was really, really sad whcn she left to go back to Finland. I miss her.

Favorite place to eat in town: Definitely the Berryville grill to get the chicken and bacon ranch panini, and also their chips, I will just go and buy chips sometimes.

Pregame routine/ritual: I have to go to Subway and ge the chicken and bacon ranch sub and listen to music to get me pumped up.

Plans after high school: I really want to go to JMU and study psychology and maybe play club or intramural volleyball.
