Bomb threat causes a big stir at Rubbermaid

WINCHESTER — A bomb threat early Monday morning forced employees to evacuate Rubbermaid Commercial Products on the city’s south side for nearly three hours.

According to Winchester Police Department spokeswoman Lauren Cummings, Frederick County dispatch received a call at about 4:30 a.m. that there was a bomb in the plant.

The building was immediately evacuated and the Virginia State Police bomb squad was called to the scene.

Rubbermaid, located at 3124 Valley Ave., was searched by Mount Weather and Frederick County bomb dogs, but no explosive devices were found.

The scene was cleared and employees were allowed back in the building by 7:20 a.m., Cummings said.

No injuries were reported in the case, which remains under investigation.
