Clarke boys’ soccer tops Manassas Park
BERRYVILLE — Davey Hardesty scored in the 78th minute off an assist from Eric Hoyt and Clarke County edged Manassas Park 1-0 in an important district game Thursday evening.
The Eagles (8-4-1, 7-3-1 Bull Run) outshot the Cougars 14-13 and goalkeeper Danny O’Donnell finished with 19 saves in the win.

STAUNTON — Grace Christian scored all of its runs in the first three innings and went on to beat Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy Thursday.
The Patriots (8-8) were led by Jacob Heflin (1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run), Mike Powell (1 for 3 with two runs and a walk), Sam Yarnall (1 for 4 with a run) and Cody Robertson (three innings pitched, zero runs and one hit allowed, one strikeout in relief). Lucas Pufnock (2-3) took the loss.

MANASSAS PARK — Sarah Herndon and Sarah Miller combined on a no-hitter as Clarke County defeated Manassas Park in a Bull Run District game shortened to five innings Thursday.
For the Eagles (12-3, 8-2 Bull Run), Herndon (7-1) struck out seven in three innings and Miller struck out five in two innings. The Cougars had one runner each on an error.
Clarke County had 24 hits and scored 13 of its runs in the third. The Eagles were led by Allie Hicks (4 for 5 with three RBIs), Becky Smith (3 for 4 with five RBIs), Megan Rion (3 for 4 with four RBIs). Olivia Gore (3 for 3 with two RBIs), Alex Jackson (3 for 3 with two RBIs) and Morganne Ottobre (2 for 2).

MANASSAS PARK — Six different players scored for Clarke County in a rout of Manassas Park on the road Thursday.
The Eagles (13-0, 11-0 Bull Run) remained undefeated thanks to two goals apiece from Aubrey Fletcher and Taylor Marshall and single goals from Morgan Fletcher, Rachel Sefton, Sarah Alger and Kati Kotka.
Goalkeeper Jessie Ambrosio needed to make only one save as Clarke County finished with a 20-1 shot advantage.
Eagles 5, Pioneers 4
WINCHESTER — Clarke County won two of three doubles sets to pull out a non-district road win over Millbrook Thursday.
The Eagles (4-10) split with the Pioneers in singles, with Clarke’s Virginia Shake (11-10 (7-4), No. 1), Callie Elliston (10-5, No. 2) and Erika Hutchinson (10-4, No. 3) and Millbrook’s Kylie Nordin (10-3, No. 4), Sarah Duvall (10-6, No. 5) and Holly Stevens (10-6, No. 6) all winning.
Shake and Elliston (10-7, No. 1) and Tess Ashby and Samantha Smith (10-5, No. 2) teamed up to clinch the match for Clarke County in doubles.
Zduoba signs with UVa.-Wise
BERRYVILLE — Clarke County senior Simona Zduoba signed her letter of intent to play for University of Virginia’s College at Wise, an NCAA Division II school, Wednesday at Clarke County High School. UVa.-Wise will compete in its inaugural season in the Mountain East Conference in the fall.
The 5-foot-11 Zduoba played varsity volleyball for the Eagles as a sophomore and junior but elected to concentrate on academics this season, finishing up International Baccalaureate.
Zduoba played in the fall with Loudoun Youth Volleyball (LYSL), which went undefeated. Currently, she is playing with NV Premier in Sterling on their 18’s team.
Zduoba’s usual position is right outside hitter but with NV this season she is middle and ROH.
