10th District  Academy Day

Area students interested in attending one of the nation’s service academies are encouraged to attend the 10th District Academy Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 6 at the Loudoun County School Board office at 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy will be in attendance. In addition, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Military Institute and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets have been invited.

Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet with these representatives, as well as participate in panel discussions.

The 2018 Academy nomination season is now “open” for inquiries from students considering attending one of the U.S. service academies.

DriveOne4URSchool fundraiser

Malloy Ford and Sherando High School will have a DriveOne4UrSchool fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 at the school.

James Wood mulch sale

Orders are being taken for the James Wood Touchdown Club’s annual mulch sale.

The top-quality shredded hardwood mulch is available in 50-pound bags, with free delivery for prepaid orders (10-bag minimum order).

The price per bag is based on the quantity ordered, with the price ranging from $3.75 to $4.25 per bag.

Mulch pickup will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6 at James Wood High School.

Home-school showcase

Handley Regional Library will host area home-school students who wish to showcase their work from 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 16 at the Bowman Library in Stephens City.

In addition to traditional entries such as written reports, demonstrations, collections, or displays of interests and hobbies, performances may be given by youth who desire to showcase vocal talent or dramatic ability. Art work also may be displayed.

Students who wish to be featured in the showcase should contact Donna Hughes by calling 540-869-9000, ext. 215, or email her at dhughes@handleyregional.org to reserve a table.

There is no charge to exhibit or attend the showcase.

Longaberger  Basket bingo

Longaberger Basket bingo will be held April 21 in the Whitacre Building at the Frederick County Fairgrounds to benefit the James Wood High School Band 2013 Scholarship Fund. Doors open at 1 p.m., and games start at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

Warrior 5K

The Sherando High School Band Boosters will host a 5K and Fun Run on April 27.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., the Fun Run at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8 a.m. Or register early at active.com/warrior5k or warrior5k.weebly.com.
