Widows and widowers luncheon

A Dutch-treat luncheon for widows and widowers will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Red Lobster in Winchester.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2123 will host a benefit for Nelson R. Pierce Jr. at 6 p.m. today.

Entertainment will be provided by Rusty Ritenour and Rim Fire (formerly Smokin Country Band) and others.

Donations and raffle proceeds will be used for funeral expenses. The event is open to the public.

Bunco for Cure

The Movin’ Mamas Relay for Life team will host Bunco for Cure at 6:30 p.m. today in the Aloft Hotel.

Tickets cost $25 for tournament players; the grand prize is $200.

Vendors will be on the site for holiday shopping.

Hilltop House benefit

Free photos with Father Christmas will be included in a benefit for residents at Hilltop Nursing Home in Winchester.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Union Jack in Winchester.

Wayside Theatre benefit

Wayside Theatre will host “A Rock & Roll Christmas” with Robbie Limon at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Curtain Call Café, with free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the adjacent theater in Middletown.

Blue Ridge Hospice  thrift shop volunteers

Blue Ridge Hospice needs volunteers for its thrift shops in Winchester, Stephens City, Front Royal, Berryville and Purcellville.

Volunteers are needed to sort donations and hang clothing in preparation for display and sale.

Auxiliary Attic  extended hours

The Winchester Medical Center’s Auxiliary Attic thrift shop at 381 Millwood Ave. in Winchester has extended its hours for the holidays.

It will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday through Dec. 22.

Highland Christmas shop

Registered Highland Food Pantry clients may shop on one of the next four Tuesdays.

Volunteers are needed to help with sorting, pricing, organizing donations and setting up and decorating the Christmas Shop in Highland Fellowship Hall, as well as working in the shop.

Volunteers are also needed to prepare, serve and clean up a light brunch for at least 35 people.

Donations of gifts are needed for older children and teens, along with small portable heaters, gloves and hats for all ages, small kitchen appliances, washable blankets, towels and sheets (may be gently used), small hand tools, hair dryers or men’s groomers/shavers, or television sets (gently used).

Lights of Love

The Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary and Blue Ridge Hospice sponsor the annual Lights of Love fundraiser.

For a donation of $5 or more, a symbolic light is placed on an evergreen tree at WMC or at 333 W. Cork St. A tree-lighting ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. today at WMC.

Christmas tree sale

Boy Scout Troop 159 of Stephens City will sell fresh-cut Christmas trees and handmade wreaths and roping through Dec. 22 on Fairfax Pike (Va. 277) across from the Food Lion Shopping Center near Stephens City.

The proceeds will be used for summer camp expenses.

Ricky Timbrook  Food and Toy Drive

The Ricky Timbrook Food and Toy Drive is under way.

The drive has been held for 13 years since Timbrook, a city police officer, was killed in the line of duty in 1999.

Collection boxes have been placed at city fire companies, the Timbrook Public Safety Center, the War Memorial Building in Jim Barnett Park, the Joint Judicial Center, Rouss City Hall, Daniel Morgan Middle School and Handley High School.

Gift wrap volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the gift-wrap fundraiser at the Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester for Healthy Families Northern Shenandoah Valley.

Help for veterans

Military veterans living with a hearing or speech loss are automatically eligible for telecommunications equipment through Virginia’s Technology Assistance Program.

Those eligible include veterans with hearing or speech loss and proof of an honorable discharge; veterans with a hearing or speech loss and documentation of a service-related disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs; a surviving spouse or child of a veteran who was killed in the line of duty and has a hearing or speech loss; or an active member of the Virginia National Guard who has completed the required initial active-duty service.

Coat drive

The Salvation Army Winchester Corps seeks gently used or new coats of all sizes for men, women and children, to be given to the needy this Christmas season.

The coats may be donated at 300 Fort Collier Road.

Holiday turkey drive

The Salvation Army Winchester Corps has joined with Sheetz convenience stores to sponsor a holiday turkey drive.

Participants should bring frozen turkeys to The Salvation Army at 300 Fort Collier Road. Donors will receive a $5 Sheetz gift card. Cash donations are also accepted.

The drive will continue through Dec. 14; 1,100 turkeys are needed.
