Diapers needed

The Congregational-Community Action Project needs diapers in sizes 3, 4 and 5 and wipes.

School clothes sale

Children’s school clothes (all sizes) are on sale for $1 to $3 at Agape Outreach at 30 S. Braddock St. in Winchester through Sept. 30.

Volunteer Farms

Volunteer Farms at 277 Crider Lane in Woodstock needs help with harvesting crops.

The farm raises vegetables and fruits to help at-risk children.

Oratorio Society singers

The Front Royal Oratorio Society is welcoming new singers for the 2013-14 concert season.

No audition is required. Rehearsals are held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays in the Front Royal Methodist Church.

Computer class

A Level 1 Beginner Computer Class will begin Tuesday in the Godfrey Miller Historic Home and Fellowship Center at 28 S. Loudoun St. in Winchester.

The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to noon for six weeks. No fee is charged, but participants must purchase the textbook. Call 540-667-5869 to register.

Bridge players

Bridge players are needed Mondays at the Godfrey Miller Historic Home and Fellowship Center in Winchester.

Habitat for Humanity construction leaders

Habitat for Humanity of Winchester-Frederick County is seeking volunteer construction crew leaders who can commit to three build days per week, starting immediately and continuing through this month.

A small stipend is possible.

Retired construction professionals may inquire. Build days start at 7:30 a.m. and finish at 3 p.m. Successful crew leaders will work under the direction of Habitat’s construction site supervisor; have a construction background and working knowledge of construction code; work well in a team atmosphere; enjoy guiding non-skilled volunteers in performing basic construction tasks; and lead by example in maintaining an upbeat, wholesome atmosphere on the construction site.

Salvation Army volunteers

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to unload merchandise from trucks at the thrift store, cook and serve meals at the shelter, organize groceries in the pantry and perform general maintenance and cleaning, lawn and landscape care, and general office duties at its 300 Fort Collier Road headquarters.

Caregivers vouchers

The Virginia Lifespan Respite Voucher Program provides reimbursement vouchers to home-based caregivers for the cost of temporary, short-term respite care provided to individuals of any age with a disability or special need.

Those eligible are caregivers of children or adults who reside in the same household as the person receiving care.

Voucher funding is limited to $400 per family.

Help with reading, writing, math

Literacy Volunteers — Winchester Area provides tutoring and small-group instruction to adults who need basic education in reading, English, math and General Educational Development preparation.

Blue Ridge Hospice  thrift shop volunteers

Help for veterans

Military veterans living with a hearing or speech loss are automatically eligible for telecommunications equipment through Virginia’s Technology Assistance Program.

Those eligible include veterans with hearing or speech loss and proof of an honorable discharge; veterans with a hearing or speech loss and documentation of a service-related disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs; a surviving spouse or child of a veteran who was killed in the line of duty and has a hearing or speech loss; or an active member of the Virginia National Guard who has completed the required initial active-duty service.

“Save-a-Sole”

Frederick County’s recycling initiative “Save-a-Sole” collects shoes, heels, handbags, belts, hats, luggage, backpacks and bags in any condition for recycling.

The items are shipped to West Africa.

Collection drop-off points are at county citizens’ convenience sites (except Gainesboro and Star Tannery), the Regional Landfill and the Frederick County Animal Shelter.
