Host Lions

The Winchester Host Lions Club will meet at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Best Western Lee-Jackson.

The guest speaker will be Warner Crocker, artistic director at Wayside Theatre in Middletown.

Glen Burnie Garden Club

Glen Burnie Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Kernstown United Methodist Church.

The program will be on the cultivation of orchids. The exhibit for the day will be “Give Thanks,” a creative line mass and accessories permitted. Committee two will judge.

At the October meeting the following received ribbons for horticulture exhibits — Susan Creasy, Carolynne Pell, Martressa Zuckerman, and Marsha Barley.

Adoline Long, Carolynne Pell, Robin Rogers, Linda Wilson and Martressa Zuckerman received ribbons for artistic designs.

Dick Bowers Duplicate Bridge Club

The Dick Bowers Duplicate Bridge Club holds regular games at 7 p.m. Monday and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Godfrey Miller Fellowship Center, 28 S. Loudoun St., Winchester. New players are welcome.

The Nov. 5 North/South winners were Dagmar Loose and Mark Sonder, first, and Della Bates and Steve Straight, second. East/West winners were George Caley and Colin Steele, first, and Marie and Milan Majarov, second.

The Nov. 6 winners were Ken Marshall and William Clark Jr., first. Bengt Farnstrom and Veda Headley and J. David Grier and Dagmar Loose, tied for second and third.

Piedmont Blue Ridge Horticulture Society

Piedmont Blue Ridge Horticulture Society will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at the BB&T Learning Center, Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, 901 Amherst Ave., Winchester.

Featured speakers will be Thomas Rainer and Claudia West.

Rainer will discuss some of the latest innovations in planting design. He is a registered landscape architect, teacher and writer living in Arlington. He is an advocate for an ecologically expressive design aesthetic that does not imitate nature but interprets it.

West will interpret Bertolt Hering’s research of natural color ranges in modern European landscapes and apply these principles to the American landscape.

She has a master’s degree in landscape architecture and landscape planning from the Technical University of Munich, Germany.

She is a consultant to North Creek Nurseries.

Northern Shenandoah Valley Tea Party

The Northern Shenandoah Valley Tea Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Camino Real Mexican Restaurant, 16 Crow St., Berryville.

A discussion on the 2012 election results and a preview of 2013 will be part of the program.

The speaker will be John T. Frey, Republican candidate for attorney general and professor Mike Haynes of Patrick Henry College.

North End Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Highland Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Members of the community may attend this free nongovernmental meeting.

Topics of discussion will include child curfew, poor street lighting and action plans for meeting the needs of the citizens in the north end.
