Erick Green headed to NBA Draft Combine

Posted: May 11, 2013

WINCHESTER — Former Millbrook High School and Virginia Tech basketball standout Erick Green is one of 61 people who will participate in next week’s NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.

The combine, which will run Wednesday through Sunday, gives NBA teams a chance to evaluate players through drills and interviews, and players also undergo physicals. The NBA Draft will take place June 27 at the Barclays Center in New York.

Green, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard and shooting guard, has long been an obvious choice to be invited to the combine because of a spectacular senior year that saw him lead the nation with 25.0 points per game. But Green said it wasn’t made official until early this week.

“This is definitely something I’m looking forward to,” said Green, who moved to Winchester when he was 4 years old, in a phone interview. “A year ago I wasn’t on any NBA Draft boards, so this is a big deal to me.”

Based on some of the most recent projections, Green could be picked late in the first round or early in the second round.

There are 30 teams in the NBA, and ESPN’s Chad Ford has Green rated as the No. 34 draft prospect. On April 29th, CBS had Green ranked 44th. The highest honors come from the website, who have Green ranked 22nd overall and have him going to the Brooklyn Nets with the 22nd pick of the first round in its latest mock draft.

In addition to his scoring average, Green was named ACC Player of the Year and was a third-team AP All-American selection.

Ten other players from the ACC have been invited to the combine — Duke’s Seth Curry, Ryan Kelly and Mason Plumlee; N.C. State’s Lorenzo Brown, Richard Howell and C.J. Leslie; Miami’s Kenny Kadji and Shane Larkin; North Carolina’s Reggie Bullock; and Maryland’s Alex Len.

The NBA Draft Combine will be televised live on Thursday and Friday. ESPNU will air it from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, and ESPN2 will televise the combine from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Live online coverage can also be found at the same times and same days on

There will also be taped coverage on ESPNU on May 18 (4 a.m. and 9 a.m.) and May 22 (6:30 a.m., 5 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.)
