Facebook plays into probe of fatal car accident
WINCHESTER — Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate the death of a woman in an Aug. 17 motorcycle crash in Frederick County.
According to a search warrant filed on Wednesday in Frederick County Circuit Court, an occupant of a 1997 Toyota Tercel that was involved in the crash took pictures of the scene with his cellphone and posted them on Facebook.
The warrant seeks to confiscate documents from Christopher Cody Adams’ Facebook account.
“Information posted and dialogue can contribute information to the investigation of the crash,” the warrant states.
Tammy Darlene Garrison, 50, died in the two-vehicle crash.
She was the passenger on a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by her husband Roger Lee Garrison when a car pulled in front of them on Northwestern Pike (U.S. 50), throwing her from the bike, state police spokesman Sgt. F.L. Tyler said previously.
The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 4100 block of Northwestern Pike in front of Lee’s Appliance.
Tyler said the driver of the Tercel, Sandra Lee Gregory, 33, of Gore caused the collision.
Just before the crash, Gregory’s vehicle crossed the westbound lanes of traffic on Northwestern Pike onto Mahlon Drive, a median strip crossover, and continued into the eastbound lanes of traffic. She then pulled out from the median in front of the motorcycle.
Tammy Garrison died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, according to Tyler.
Roger Lee Garrison was taken to Winchester Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was unknown at the time, but Wednesday’s warrant states that they were serious.
Gregory was not injured in the crash, Tyler said. Her boyfriend — Adams, 27, also of Gore — and her dog were passengers in the Tercel. They were not injured.
Gregory was charged at the time with reckless driving.
The Garrisons were wearing helmets, and Gregory and Adams were wearing seat belts, Tyler said.
Trooper C. McNulty filed the search warrant in the case.
