WINCHESTER — A fire ripped through a Frederick County home Sunday night, causing two residents to evacuate.

The blaze at 103 Massie Drive, located off Senseny Road east of Interstate 81, was reported by a neighbor at 7:01 p.m. The home is a split-level residence with an attached garage.

There were initial reports of an injury suffered in the fire, but emergency responders at the scene were unable to confirm that.

Greenwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company Chief Eddie Keeler said both residents made it out safely and that no responders were injured.

“There was fire blowing out of the lower roof when we arrived,” Keeler said. “We had crews get in there and knock [the fire] down above the garage, but it got into the split-level part and we had to get up in the attic there. We’re going to be here an extensive amount of time overhauling everything.”

Keeler said he was unsure of a damage estimate to the home. He added that the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the incident.

One of the home’s residents declined to comment at the scene.

Crews from the Greenwood, Clear Brook, Millwood Station, Friendship and Boyce volunteer fire and rescue companies responded to the scene. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office handled traffic control.
