SHAWNEELAND — A Friday night fire destroyed a home in Shawneeland and injured a boy who lived there.

The cause of the blaze at 1204 Hickory Trail in western Frederick County remains under investigation, according to Lt. Mark Showers of the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office, but it was not suspicious in nature.

Showers said the house was already engulfed in flames when firefighters were called to the scene just before 9:45 p.m.

He added that two occupants — a boy and his grandmother — were at home when the fire broke out.

The boy sustained unspecified injuries and was treated and released from Winchester Medical Center, Showers said.

The home is a total loss, but Showers did not have damage estimates.

He added that more information would likely be available today.

Lorrie Rhoton of the local chapter of the American Red Cross said the organization responded to the fire but that the grandmother was not on scene when they arrived.

Red Cross information was left for her, but she has not contacted the organization for assistance, Rhoton said.

Frederick County fire and rescue units from North Mountain, Gainesboro, Round Hill, Star Tannery and Gore, along with the fire marshal’s office, responded to the fire.
