Handley student arrested after scuffle with officer
WINCHESTER — A Handley High School student was arrested Tuesday after allegedly biting a school resource officer on the arm.
Andrew Fields, 18, of Winchester, is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.
He was briefly taken to the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center before being released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Winchester Police Department spokeswoman Lauren Cummings said Fields became unruly around 10 a.m. in a classroom and the law enforcement officer was called to escort him to the office.
Fields began to resist walking to the office and the officer attempted to take him into custody — at which point he allegedly bit the officer on the arm.
The officer also sustained cuts and abrasions to his legs, according to Cummings.
The officer called for backup, and within minutes police arrived to assist in arresting Fields.
Several attempts to reach the Fields family were unsuccessful.
