WINCHESTER — Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday following a head-on collision on Laurel Grove Road.

Deputy D. Sardelis of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated the crash, said the driver of one of the vehicles — a 31-year-old Winchester woman — was cited for not wearing a seat belt. He said the other driver — a 47-year-old Winchester man who was taken to Winchester Medical Center with unknown injuries — would be cited for reckless driving.

The drivers’ names were not released.

Sardelis said the man was driving a 2013 Dodge Ram pickup in the 700 block of Laurel Grove Road — east toward Middle Road, southwest of Winchester — when he cut the corner of a curve and came into the other lane of traffic.

At the same time, the woman was driving a 1995 Ford F-450 in the opposite lane, heading west.

The Dodge struck the Ford head-on.

Sardelis said a backseat passenger in the Ford was also taken to WMC with unknown injuries.

He estimated the damage to the Ford at $5,000 and the Dodge at $10,000.

Sardelis said the crash, which closed Laurel Grove Road for 30 to 45 minutes, remains under investigation.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
