WINCHESTER — A Cross Junction man was arrested Saturday night after wielding an air rifle in The George Washington Hotel following an alleged domestic assault.

Lawrence Geisler III, 34, was taken into custody by city police and charged with domestic assault, abduction, brandishing a firearm and vandalism of telephone equipment. He is being held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.

At about 9 p.m., Geisler was involved in an alleged domestic assault at the hotel on the 100 block of East Piccadilly Street, according to Winchester Police Department spokeswoman Lauren Cummings.

During the assault, he prevented the 30-year-old female victim from leaving a hotel room, Cummings said. He also disconnected the phone line so she couldn’t call police.

The victim had two small children with her.

Cummings declined to identify the relationship between Geisler, the woman and the children.

Geisler then left the hotel and went downtown, where at 9:37 p.m. he was involved in a fight on the 100 block of Loudoun Street on the Loudoun Street Mall, according to Cummings.

By the time officers arrived, Geisler had left the scene. Ten minutes later, officers were called to the third floor of the hotel after Geisler was seen with an Airsoft rifle, which is a nonlethal replica firearm that fires plastic pellets or paper balls.

When officers arrived at the scene, Geisler came out of a hotel room with the rifle, dropped the gun and went back into the room. When he came back out a second time, officers took him into custody, according to Cummings.

The victim had an injury to her hand and was evaluated at the scene. She refused medical treatment, according to Cummings.

The incident remains under investigation.
