WINCHESTER — A Berryville man remains in jail after allegedly brandishing a BB gun Monday in the parking lot of the local Costco store.

Laban Hudson, 34, of the 500 block of Russell Road appeared Tuesday in Frederick County General District Court via video for a bond hearing.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance and brandishing a firearm, he was granted a $25,000 secured bond.

A Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center official said late Tuesday that Hudson had not posted bond.

Frederick County deputies were called around 2:40 p.m. to the Costco parking lot — at 251 Front Royal Pike (U.S. 522) — after receiving reports of two men arguing and one brandishing what appeared to be a black handgun at the other.

According to the criminal complaint, Hudson — who was fighting with someone he knew — pointed a Colt Defender 177 Caliber BB gun, causing people in the area to be in “fear for their overall safety” and lives.

The gun was later recovered at Costco, the complaint states.

Deputies also found a small pill container with heroin in the front pocket of Hudson’s shorts, according to the complaint.

He is expected to return to court at 1 p.m. May 14.
