MVCA boys win Hampshire tournament

ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Mountain View Christian Academy boys’ basketball team captured the Hampshire (W.Va.) Holiday Tournament with a 69-66 victory over host Hampshire in the final Monday.

The Conquerors (12-4) were led by Brad Pressley (17 points, 18 rebounds, four assists), Wayne Alsberry (21 points, nine rebounds) and James Kirksey (22 points, four assists). Pressley and Alsberry were named to the all-tournament team.


SU’s Chittenden named ODAC PoW

FORREST — Sophomore Holly Chittenden has been named ODAC Player of the Week for women’s basketball in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Chittenden, who becomes the first SU basketball player to be named ODAC PoW, had 20 points and 15 rebounds in the Hornets’ 54-51 win over St. Mary’s of Maryland on DeC. 17.

This is the fourth career weekly honor for Chittenden. Last season, she was USA South Rookie of the Week three times.

The win was the fourth straight for Chittenden and the Hornets.

The double-double was her fifth in 10 games this season and she is now in the top 10 in the league in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and free throw percentage.

Shenandoah returns to action at home today in its non-league finale against Marymount. Game time is 7 p.m.
