A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday for the Winchester-area. Sleet and freezing rain could produce an accumulation of ice of less than one-tenth of an inch.

WEATHER: It's 30 degrees currently in Winchester at noon. Snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely today before 3 p.m., then freezing rain and sleet likely. Cloudy, with a high near 33.  Little or no ice accumulation expected. Freezing rain likely tonight before 10 p.m., then a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Chance of freezing rain after 2 a.m. Freezing rain likely Saturday before 8 a.m., then rain likely.  Sunny and a high of 49 on Sunday.

STOCKS: Better earnings reports from U.S. companies are sending stocks higher in midday trading.

The market is recovering from a two-day slump but is still on track for its worst week so far this year.

The Dow was up 64 points at 13,944 at noon Friday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose six to 1,508. The Nasdaq composite index rose 14 to 3,145.
