WEATHER: 
Currently it is 38 degrees in Winchester under overcast skies. A good chance of rain and snow this afternoon with a high of 41 and a low of 30 tonight. More precipitation tomorrow with a high of 45.
 

STOCKS: Stocks are edging lower on Wall Street as tensions rise in Washington over increasing the country's borrowing limit. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 14 points to 13,493 shortly before noon. The Standard and Poor's 500 dropped two points to 1,468 and the Nasdaq composite index fell 13 points to 3,104.

Counselors are in place at Sherando High School today after staff and students were notified Monday that first-year social studies teacher Roy McKenzie died unexpectedly. STORY

COMING IN WEDNESDAY'S STAR:  
Apple Blossom Mall is in the final stages of its first major renovation since it opened in 1983. Mall officials are having a ribbon cutting for the refurbished food court today.

Today's Big Game: Handley at Sherando boys' basketball, 7:30. Handley (11-2, 2-0 Northwestern District) and Sherando (9-4, 3-0) play for the early lead in the districtHandley won all three meetings last year, including a 61-54 victory in the Northwestern District Tournament finals.

Sherando, winners of seven straight, is led by senior Aaron Miller (21 ppg through last Thursday) while Handley is led by Cameron Jackson (19.3 ppg through last Thursday).
