WINCHESTER — Local authorities are investigating circumstances that involve more than nine pounds of marijuana being mailed to a county home.

According to a search warrant filed Thursday in Frederick County Circuit Court, the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force was contacted Dec. 7 by postal inspectors about a suspicious package.

Investigators went to the address where the package was shipped and spoke to the recipient — who said she was unaware of its contents and that someone else ordered it.

Upon getting consent from the package owner, investigators opened it and found more than nine pounds of marijuana inside.

Capt. Allen Sibert confirmed Thursday that the agencies still are investigating the incident.

He said charges have yet to be placed.
