Our View: Speaking of bayonets . . .
Seeking to derisively denounce Mitt Romney’s call for a bigger Navy, President Obama, during Monday’s third presidential debate, all but declared such advocacy hoary, almost antediluvian. Or akin to asking for more “bayonets and horses.”
Well, as Fox News reported following the verbal scrum, one Marine could not suppress his indignation — tweeting, in essence, “Hell, yes, we still use bayonets in the Corps.”
And though they walk in solemn reverence rather than measured ferocity, each guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has, unmistakably attached to his rifle, a shiny bayonet.
Poor comparison, Mr. President.
