Our View: Thinking out loud
Much in the manner of Republican resistance to the thought of former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel as Defense secretary, another battle is looming atop Capitol Hill, this one over President Obama’s nomination of John Brennan as CIA chief.
Many lawmakers, it’s been reported, find Mr. Brennan aloof to the point of arrogance. We find his reluctance to properly describe our fight with militant Islamists as a “war on terrorism” rather alarming.
And we wonder, too, if his insistence on calling Jerusalem by its Arabic name — “Al-Quds” — is needlessly provocative, or a sign of something else entirely. Something far more revealing about his geopolitical world view.
