The archives at the Handley Regional Library provided these photographs of Loudoun Street, taken about 1963, before the street was turned into a walking mall in 1974. LEFT: The Huntsberry department store is shown with the Snow White Grill to its right. Huntberry’s is gone, but the Snow White still operates today. RIGHT: J.J. Newberry was a popular five-and-dime store. The white building a few doors down is the Taylor Hotel, which housed a McCrory’s five-and-dime store.
