H.D. Robinson Jr., holding a basketball, poses with his teammates outside Handley High School in 1938-39. Robinson’s son, Charlie, provided the photo. Charlie’s uncle, Wayne Whitham, stands third from the left in the back row. On the far left, with the whistle, is the coach, Hunter Maddex. The gentleman on the far right in the suit is a Mr. Louthan. Charlie said his father always referred to the school’s basketball court as the “cracker box.” The gym was located behind what is now the Patsy Cline Theatre and consisted of four brick walls with enough space around the sides for the team to sit and limited elevated seating for spectators.
