Judy Grove Kinter of White Hall provided this photo of herself (left) and Patty Bixby in front of the former Capitol Theater at the corner of Cameron Street and Rouss Avenue in 1943. The man in back on the left is unknown. In the middle is Ben Belchic, appointed by the War Production Board as chairman of the Winchester Salvage Committee. On the left in back is theater manager Lamar Keen. Kinter’s mother, Maddie Grove, was chairman of the Girls Athletic Association’s fat salvage committee. Her job was to collect household fats for use in making explosives. In order to meet the goals of the fat committee, a parade was held, culminating at the theater with speeches and the showing of “Sargeant York.”
