Police seek info on assault: 50-year-old man chanrged with abducting, sexually abusing 14-year-old girl
WINCHESTER — City police are seeking more information about an alleged incident that resulted in a 50-year-old man being arrested for abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Ignacio Ramirez, of no fixed address, was arrested Sunday evening and charged with abduction, strangulation, forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and object sexual penetration. He was being held without bond Monday night at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center.
Lauren Cummings, spokesman for the Winchester Police Department, said the girl told investigators that Ramirez approached her at about 5 p.m. Sunday and asked her to help him take some items into his storage unit at 3 W. Monmouth St.
Once inside the unit, Cummings said, the victim alleges that Ramirez held her down by the throat and assaulted her. The victim later described the site to police and led them there.
Cummings would not disclose how police came to be aware of the alleged assault. She said Ramirez was arrested at a different location “shortly after” the alleged assault occurred.
The alleged victim was treated for injuries at Winchester Medical Center, she said.
While Ramirez has no fixed address, Cummings said investigators think he has been staying in Winchester.
She added that the alleged incident remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Solvers at 540-665-8477.
