WILLIAMSBURG — The Winchester Post 21 Senior baseball team has been eliminated from the American Legion 2013 Virginia State Tournament after the format was changed from double to single elimination because of rain Thursday.

In their second game of the tournament, Post 21 (25-5) lost to Danville Post 325 13-6 in a game that ended late Wednesday night. As a result, Winchester tied for third place with three other teams in the tournament.

Against Danville, Post 21 scored five runs in the first inning, but managed just two more hits over the remainder of the game.

John Bentley took the loss for Post 21, surrendering eight runs, six hits and three walks while striking out two in two-plus innings of work.

Offensively, Winchester was led by Chase Smallwood (2 for 5), Taylor Loudan (1 for 3, two walks), Ethan Emmart (1 for 5, two RBIs) and Justin Angel and Nick Goode, who had one RBI apiece.

As for Post 21’s Junior team, they were supposed to start their double-elimination tournament Thursday at RF&P Park in Glen Allen against Great Bridge Post 280, but that game was pushed back to this morning because of rain and will start at 10.
