David Juth examines a scud — a type of aquatic invertebrate — through a microscope during an informational meeting for people who would like to volunteer to monitor such critters as part of a program to screen the health of the Spout Run watershed. The Clarke County stream, and its tributaries Roseville Run and Page Brook, were declared impaired by the state in 1998, and it is now the target of a cleanup project involving many agencies and individuals.
