WINCHESTER — Police are searching for a man who they say broke into a residence in the 500 block of Virginia Avenue on Tuesday.

According to Winchester Police Department spokesman Lauren Cummings, officers responded to the home just after 11 a.m. for reports of an alarm.\

When they got there, officers found an open window and immediately searched the area using a canine unit.

Cummings said that police have a person of interest and went door to door in the area asking if anyone had seen an individual matching their description of him or anything else suspicious.

Officers also gave residents in the area safety advice.

The person of interest is described as a white male in his early 20s with a thin build, dark hair and dark eyes who was clean shaven and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans, according to Cummings.

She said that nobody was injured and no weapons were used in the alleged breaking and entering. It is also unclear if anything was taken from the home.

Anyone with information about this incident can call the Winchester Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 540-545-4704 or Crime Solvers at 540-665-8477.
