winchester — The following events for children are being offered through Handley Regional Library and are free and open to the public.

2 p.m. Saturday — Beginning chess workshop at Handley Library

Workshop will be led by volunteers from Westminster-Canterbury and held in the Benham Room at Handley Library. Participants can learn the game indoors while it is cold outside and be ready to play on the giant chess board located in the Mike Foreman Rotary Reading Garden next spring.

11 a.m. Dec. 6 — First Friday Dance Party at Handley Library

Toddlers and preschoolers work off holiday energy during a morning of music and movement.

11 a.m. Dec. 7 — Jiminy Jingles Holiday Party at Bowman Library

Children will play and sing as they spend the morning listening to stories and creating decorations.

2 p.m. Dec. 7 — Once Upon a Fairytale at Handley Library

This new program is presented by the collage group who will lead songs, tell stories, and host a special guest. Program is for children ages 5-10.

4:30 p.m. Dec. 11 — Gingerbread Jamboree at Handley Library

“Run, run, as fast as you can! You can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!” Children will engage in stories, songs, and all manner of gingerbread-themed activities.
