Members of Amy Smith’s fourth-grade class at D.G. Cooley Elementary School defend a stream, marked by a black rope in the grass behind them, from a big raindrop, represented by the blue ball.
Under the direction of Master Naturalist Mary Beth Grove of the Potomac Valley Audubon Society, Michael Virts of D.G. Cooley Elementary creates “rain” with a spray bottle of water that washes colored “chemicals” and “soil” into a stream on this model of a landscape.
