WINCHESTER — Frederick County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man who they say stole an idling vehicle Thursday from the parking lot of a local Walmart.

In the short time that the driver stepped out of his car at the store at 501 Wal Mart Drive — located off of Northwestern Pike (U.S. 50) — another man jumped into his 2010 Chevrolet HHR and took off, according to Capt. Allen Sibert.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m.

Sibert said the missing black vehicle is reported to have had a handicap placard hanging from the rearview mirror and a NASCAR No. 14 (Tony Stewart’s number) sticker in the left rear window. The Virginia license plate on the car reads WOE4390, Sibert said.

The only description of the perpetrator is that he is a black male, Sibert said. It is believed that he may have driven off from another law enforcement agency during a traffic stop after the incident.

Anyone with information can call the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office investigations division at 540-667-0420 or Crime Solvers at 540-665-8477.
