Toddler found roaming streets
WINCHESTER — A local woman was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after her toddler was found wandering the city’s streets Thursday morning.
Sgt. Frank Myrtle of the Winchester Police Department said officers were called around 11:45 a.m. to the 700 block of South Cameron Street for reports of a found child.
Police arrived and discovered a 2-year-old girl wandering the sidewalks in nothing but her underwear and adult shoes.
Police determined that the toddler had meandered to the area from her home in the 100 block of East Germain Street — less than a block away, according to Myrtle.
The girl’s mother, Michelle Draper, 26, was released on a summons following a joint investigation by the Winchester Police Department and Social Services.
The child was released back to the custody of Draper after she was charged.
Myrtle did not comment about how or why the child wandered from the home.
