WINCHESTER — A local salon was clipped by a tractor-trailer Thursday off Berryville Pike (Va. 7) on the city’s northeast side.

Winchester Police Department officers responded to the call at about 10:45 a.m. at Details the Salon, 621 Atwell Ave.

According to spokeswoman Lauren Cummings, a 53-foot tractor-trailer bound for KFC used the salon’s parking lot — located behind the eatery — and clipped the overhang of the business.

Sherry Dugan, 48, of Winchester, lives across the street from the salon and said she witnessed the incident.

“He just kept on going,” she said of the truck driver. “I knew that he wasn’t going to make it — I just thought he was going to back up.”

The building’s overhang sustained minor damage, according to Cummings, and no charges were placed because the collision occurred on private property.

The salon owner said Thursday that she was too busy to comment, and the tractor-trailer driver declined to comment.

Dugan said the crash “rumbled a good bit.”

“It shook the [salon] building and the house [I was in],” she said. “I thought it was another earthquake!”

Cummings said no injuries were reported.

Winchester fire and rescue crews and a building inspector responded to the scene to inspect the damage.

Firefighters blocked off the driving area under the overhang before leaving the scene.

Cummings did not have a cost estimate on the damage.
