WINCHESTER — Three people were hospitalized and a vehicle was destroyed Friday in a two-car crash on Front Royal Pike (U.S. 522).

Deputy Warren Gosnell, traffic supervisor for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, said the wreck occurred just after 12:45 p.m. near Clydesdale Drive, southeast of Winchester.

Mary Puleo, 68, of Berryville was driving a 2007 Kia west and attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Front Royal Pike.

Gosnell said she did not see a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville traveling south and pulled out in front of that driver — a 44-year-old Winchester resident.

Puleo and two occupants of the Pontiac were taken to Winchester Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Gosnell, who investigated the accident, said Puleo was cited for reckless driving. He said the Kia was a total loss and estimated damage to the Pontiac at $6,000 to $7,000.

The left southbound lane of Front Royal Pike was closed for about 30 minutes and the right northbound lane for about 45 minutes.
