WINCHESTER -- A 54-year-old Front Royal woman was injured and transported to Winchester Medical Center this morning after her vehicle drove off Va. 37 and rolled down an embankment.
The single-vehicle accident occurred around 7:10 this morning in the northbound lane of Va. 37 about one-quarter mile north of the Opequon exit. A witness traveling behind the vehicle said the car went airborne as it went off the right side of the road, then tumbled down the embankment before coming to a stop.

The driver, Susan Diane Wertz, was trapped in the car for about 45 minutes then transported to Winchester Medical Center. She was the only occupant of the car.

Speed appears to be a factor. Wertz was wearing her seatbelt.

Wertz's condition of the driver is still unknown.
