2012 All-Area Volleyball Teams

All-Area First Team

Katie Houser — James Wood — Sophomore — Outside Hitter

Building off her stellar freshman campaign, Houser led the Colonels with an area-best 451 kills to go along with 220 digs, 84 aces and 30 blocks. Houser set a single-match record with 35 kills, landed on the All-Region II First Team and was named both Northwestern District Player of the Year and The Winchester Star’s Player of the Year.

Dierdre Carter — Handley — Senior — Outside Hitter

Despite suffering a foot injury late in the season, Carter still managed a team-best 256 kills, 47 aces and 185 digs for the Judges. A two-time first team All-Northwestern District selection, she helped the Judges to a second-place finish.

Alex Barnett — Handley — Senior — Middle Blocker

Barnett was a rock in the middle for Handley. Earning first team All-Northwestern District honors, she finished with 117 blocks, 95 kills, 59 digs and 21 aces for a Judges’ team that won a regional match for the first time since 1996.

Jessica Henry — Sherando — Senior — Outside Hitter

One of only four seniors on the team, Henry paced Sherando with 160 kills, 145 digs and 26 aces. She was a first team All-Northwestern District and combined with fellow senior Cassie Slater to form a potent offensive combination for the Warriors.

Emilee Payne — James Wood — Senior — Setter

Payne was the quarterback of the high-flying Colonel attack, totaling an area-best 565 assists and 140 digs. She was a first team All-Northwestern District selection and helped James Wood win both the district regular season and tournament and advance to the Group AA state quarterfinals.

Kelby Jackson — James Wood — Senior — Libero

A two-time first team All-Northwestern District selection, Jackson was the “captain” of the James Wood defense according to coach Jill Couturiaux. She finished with an area-best 310 digs to go along with 32 aces and 21 assists, was an first team All-Region II selection and even played some outside hitter for the Colonels.

Ana Ribeiro — Handley — Junior — Outside Hitter

A late addition to the roster, Ribeiro made her presence known quickly for the Judges. The exchange student was the surprise of the season, totaling 179 kills, 254 digs and 26 aces and leading Handley to its best season in 16 years.
