Accused robber’s bond is revoked

WINCHESTER — A local man who allegedly robbed another man with a knife is no longer eligible to go free.
After being granted a $15,000 secured bond Wednesday in Winchester General District Court on a robbery charge, Kevin Lamont Sanders Jr., 19, of Winchester appeared Friday in Winchester Circuit Court — where Judge John E. Wetsel Jr. revoked it.
The bond was rescinded because Sanders allegedly committed a crime while free on bond for other alleged crimes.
Krystal A. Omps, Sanders’ attorney, did not object to the bond revocation and Sanders’ next court hearing was set for 2 p.m. March 19.
Before the new hearing was set, Sanders was scheduled for a jury trial in early February for charges of malicious wounding by mob and simple assault and battery by mob stemming from a New Year’s Day attack that injured three people in 2012.
While on bond for those charges, Sanders allegedly robbed a Winchester man at about 2 a.m. Sunday near Loudoun and Cork streets.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, a city police officer saw Sanders near the first block of South Loudoun, tossing a hat into the air.
Another man in the area reported that Sanders took the hat off his head just before threatening him with a knife.
Court documents state that the victim identified Sanders as the person who robbed him and took the hat.
Police recovered a pocket knife and an article of clothing valued at $50 from Sanders, according to a previous media release.
