HARRISONBURG -- James Cobler, the Winchester man who pleaded guilty last fall to five counts of child molestation and pornography, was sentenced today in Harrisonburg to 120 years in prison.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Urbanski used the maximum end of the state guidelines to sentence Cobler.

Cobler pleaded guilty Oct. 30 to three felony counts of sexually exploiting a 4-year-old boy for the purpose of producing child pornography, one felony count of transporting child pornography and one felony count of possessing child pornography.

Cobler was 27 years old the day he pleaded guilty without the benefit of a deal.

Urbanski said during the hearing that he struggled with the case and gave it a lot of thought, but because the acts were so egregious he could not see deviating from the guidelines.

During the hearing it was disclosed that Cobler performed these acts knowing he had HIV and did so a second time after researching the chances of transmitting the disease.
