Blue Ridge  Showcase Festival

The James Wood High School band will host the 7th annual Blue Ridge Showcase Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday at the school.

Tickets are $8.

Dig Pink event

The James Wood High School girls’ volleyball team will host its annual Dig Pink event to benefit the fight against breast cancer at its Oct. 18 home game against Millbrook High School. Junior varsity plays at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.

Spectators are encouraged to wear pink and arrive early to browse raffle items and visit vendors. Event T-shirts and pink hair extensions will be available for purchase.

DriveOne4URSchool

Ford will donate $20 to Sherando High School for each person who test drives a new Ford vehicle, up to $3,000.

An additional $10 will be donated to those who also test drive a 2013 Ford Escape.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at the school at 185 South Warrior Drive in Stephens City.

Sherando Safe Halloween

The Sherando High School Band Boosters will present its 6th annual Safe Halloween from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school.

Children can go from station to station at the event trick-or-treating for candy and prizes.

There also will be face painting, a haunted house, a “tattoo” station, an instrument petting zoo, and a balloon bender.

Admission is $3 per child for ages 12 and younger. Concessions available.

The Band Boosters also will be collecting nonperishable food items for an area food bank.

Apple dumplings fundraiser

The James Wood High School band is selling apple dumplings to raise money.

Dumplings are $9. Pickup in the school cafeteria is from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18.

In need of donations

Apple Country Head Start is in need of the following items: pull-up diapers (sizes 3T to 5T), small paper cups, toilet paper, tissues and paper towels.
