Shenandoah University will host a regional financial aid workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Stimpson Auditorium of Halpin-Harrison Hall at the Harry F. Byrd Jr. School of Business.

Celebration of Freedom

The Josephine School Community Museum will have a 150th anniversary celebration of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Clarke County High School auditorium in Berryville. The snow date is Jan. 12.

Bridal shows

Winchester Bridal Expo will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. More than 40 exhibitors with wedding related products and services will be available. Fashion shows, prizes and giveaways will be part of the activities.

Winter Bridal Marketplace will take place from noon to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Millwood Station Special Event Center, Winchester. It will showcase leading wedding venues, accommodations and wedding professionals. There will be prizes and giveaways.

Tuesday

Little Lions

Little Lions will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Middletown Elementary School in the kindergarten classroom.

Movie showing

The Magic Lantern Theater, the Friends of Handley Regional Library and Barns of Rose Hill will screen the applauded 2012 American documentary, “The Queen of Versailles” (PG) that tells the true story of a couple’s journey from rages to riches to rags in the economic crash.

Handley Library showings are at 7 p.m. Wednesday and at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 in the auditorium, 100 W. Piccadilly St., Winchester. It is free and open to the public; donations accepted.

The Barns showing is at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at 95 Chalmers Court, Berryville. Admission is $5 with popcorn, wine, beer and sodas for sale.

Writing workshop

Barns of Rose Hill and Clarke County Library present the Secrets of Good Writing Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday by Publishing Consultant and Writing Coach David Hazard at the Barns of Rose Hill.

“Opus” will take place from Jan. 11 to 13 and Jan. 17 to 20 at the Winchester Little Theatre.

The story is about the world-renowned Lazara Quartet, which is faced with replacing a founding member days before the highest-profile performance of its career.

Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum

Cliff Campbell will lead a chess club that meets Mondays, except for the first week of the month when the museum is closed, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Jan. 14 to March 25.

Mr. Mark’s Winter Summer Camp Club is a mix of science, art, invention for kids from kindergarten to fourth grade from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan 9 to March 27.

Wee Discoverers, an educational program for youngest visitors and their parents or caregivers, is held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays Jan. 9 to April 24. Mr. Mark conducts an exploration of world through art, science and humor.

January visiting artist is Donna Gray, who will offer collage activities for children and families.

Visiting Artist’s programs are free with admission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 12 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 13.
