Preservation of Historic Winchester’s “Lunch and Learn” lecture series will begin at noon today in the Lewis-Jones Knitting Mill at 126 N. Kent St.

The topic: “How to Stay Warm and Retain Historic Integrity with Modern Storm Windows” by Jay Reyher.

Long Branch lectures

The Long Branch Historic House and Farm’s Nancy St. Clair Talley 2013 Lecture Series will begin at 6:30 p.m. today with Patrick Smithwick discussing his books on steeplechase.

Fairview Lutheran Church, Gore, will hold an indoor yard and bake sale Friday and Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m.

LFCC Spring Show

Lord Fairfax Community College’s Spring Show will begin at 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the William H. McCoy Theatre of the Alson Smith Building on the Middletown campus.

A preshow event will begin 90 minutes before each performance in the Corron Conference Center. Free ice cream, hand- and face- painting and cake and candy walks are planned. Concessions will be sold.

Poker party

Preservation of Historic Winchester will hold a St. Patty’s Day Poker Party from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Grim-Moore House at 510 S. Loudoun St.

Chips will cost $20. All proceeds will benefit PHW; no cash prizes will be offered.

French and Indian War Foundation celebration

The French and Indian War Foundation will host “Celebrating our Scots-Irish Heritage” at 6 p.m. Saturday in The George Washington Hotel at 103 E. Piccadilly St. in Winchester.

Headley House tour

An Empty House Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in Head-ley House at Long Green (498 Long Green Lane).

The admission fee is $5 per person. The house and gardens will be redone for a designer showcase in September.

Little League dinner

The Clarke County Little League will hold a dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Blue Ridge Fire Hall.

The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 10, and free for ages 5 and under.

The proceeds will go toward lights on baseball fields at the Clarke County Parks and Recreation Department.

Russian Pancake Day

The Collage Club will hold a Russian Pancake Day (Maslenitsa) from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the children’s room at Handley Regional Library in Winchester.

The entertainment will include Russian dancing and music. The event is free and open to the public.

Fellowship dinner

Kernstown United Methodist Church will hold a community fellowship dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Metropolitan Women’s Choir and a special cast will present a ceremonial concert for the proposed Korean War Memorial in Jim Barnett Park at 6 p.m. Saturday in Braddock Street United Methodist Church.

Aspiring Writers Workshop

Writing coach David Hazard will offer an Aspiring Writers Workshop Saturday in the Benham Room of Handley Library at 100 W. Piccadilly St. in Winchester.

A session for young writers is planned from 10 a.m. to noon and another for adult writers will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

Coin show

The Winchester Coin Club will sponsor a coin show from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Washington Room of the Hampton Inn at 1204 Berryville Ave. in Winchester.

Bluemont Country Dance

A Bluemont Country Dance featuring The 8th of January will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hillsboro Old Stone School.

Stephens City Hop-In

The Stephens City Hop-In will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Newtown Commons.

The event includes an Easter egg hunt, games, face-painting, a visit from the Easter bunny and refreshments — all for children in the third grade and younger.

The hunt for preschoolers and kindergartners will begin at 2:15 p.m.; for older children, the hunt will start at 2:45.

The Apple Blossom Mall will hold its Easter Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the J.C. Penney court.

Film showing

“Moonrise Kingdom” will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Handley Library auditorium in Winchester and at 7:30 p.m. March 21 at the Barns of Rose Hill in Berryville.

The film is rated PG-13 and runs for an hour and 34 minutes. The showing is free at Handley and costs $5 at the Barns.

Pancake breakfast

A pancake breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Little Mountain United Methodist Church on Cedar Grove Road in Frederick County.

Louise’s Angels will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Congregational Christian Fellowship Church at 2908 Middle Road.

Pancake breakfast

A pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Stephens City.

The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children 3 to 12 and free for those 2 and under.

The proceeds will benefit the preschool scholarship fund.

Winchester Musica Viva

Winchester Musica Viva will celebrate the 100th anniversary of composer Benjamin Britten’s birth with concerts at 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester.

Tickets cost $15. Students with identification and children under 10 will be admitted free.

“What’s Green  at Blandy?”

Winchester Pipes  and Drums pub tour

The 10th Annual Pub Tour of City of Winchester Pipes and Drums will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at five Winchester restaurants: Buffalo Wild Wings, Cork Street Tavern, Union Jack Pub, Brewbakers and Piccadilly’s Public House.

Used Book Sale

The Friends of Handley Regional Library’s Spring Used Book Sale will begin with a preview night for members from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Bowman Library near Stephens City.

Muslim Journeys

The Alson H. Smith Jr. Library and the College of Arts and Sciences at Shenandoah University will host a free reception featuring the resources in the “Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the library.

At 7 p.m., the documentary “Prince Among Slaves” will be shown in Henkel Hall’s Hester auditorium. Author Terry Alford will attend the reception and introduce the film.

The series is free and open to the public.
