Five princesses named for 86th festival

Winchester — The selection of five additional princesses to serve in the court of Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI for the 2013 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has been announced.
Skyler Marie Dimasi
She attends James Madison University in Harrisonburg, where she is a sophomore majoring in psychology with a criminal science minor. Skyler is the daughter of Lori and Joe Dimasi of Winchester and is the granddaughter of Alice and Bob Giles of Winchester, and Jenny and Tony Dimasi of Charlottesville. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Concert Choir and the Theatre and Drama Club. Skyler was the recipient of three Carter T. Fussel award’s through Wayside Theatre and a member of Sigma Kappa at JMU.
Morgan Elizabeth Hoenig
She attends the University of Virginia, where she is a second- year student double-majoring in foreign affairs and history. Morgan is the daughter of Lisa and Byron Hoenig of Stephens City and the granddaughter of Mary Ellen and Michael Wehn and Patricia and Kenneth Lineberg, all of Stephens City, and Linda and George Hoenig of Clear Brook. She is a graduate of Sherando High School, where she was a cheerleader for all four years, and was named to the Northwestern All-Academic Athletic Team. She was a member of the schoolchoir and National Honor Society. At U.Va,, she has participated on the varsity cheer team, is a member of Sigma Kappa, Morale chair and serves on the New Member Education Committee.
Blake Alexandra Parkes
She attends Shenandoah University, where she is a freshman majoring in nursing. Blake is the daughter of Cynthia and Scott Parkes of Winchester and the granddaughter of Patricia Rucker of Beckley, W.Va. and the late William Rucker, and Duane Parkes of Manistee, Mich. and the late Barbara Parkes. She is a graduate of Millbrook High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club secretary. She was a varsity athlete in tennis and volleyball. She received the volleyball coach’s award, was named to the All-District first team, received the Key Club Pioneer of the Year award and was named to the distinguished honor roll. She is a member of the SU volleyball team.
Marlena Genevieve Spencer
She attends the University of Virginia, where she is a first-year student majoring in architectural history. Marlena is the daughter of Tina and Marlin Spencer of Winchester and the granddaughter of Genevieve and Arthur Behnke of Winchester and the late Marlin Spencer and Oliver Sowers of York, Pa. and the late Patricia Sowers. She is a graduate of Handley High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Key Club, where she received the Distinguished Officer Award and Secretary of the Year award two years. She was a Handley Scholar and an Advanced Placement Scholar. At U.Va., she is a member of the Circle K organization and the College Republicans and is a member of Alpha Delta Pi, Zeta Xi Chapter.
Lauren Rae Wilkins
She attends Shepherd University, where she is a sophomore majoring in fitness and exercise science, with a physical therapist minor. Lauren is the daughter of Marilyn and Kevin Wilkins of Winchester and the granddaughter of Evelyn Hess and Jeri and Donnie Wilkins, all of Winchester. She is a graduate of Sherando High School, where she was a member of the Key Club, FBLA and National Leaders of America. She was a varsity athlete in volleyball and track and field and received the 2010 All Northwest District Volleyball Player of the Year and Winchester Star’s 2010 Player of the year. She is a member of Shepherd’s volleyball team.
The princesses will accompany Queen Shenandoah LXXXVI and her court to functions throughout the 86th festival, scheduled for April 26-May 5.
